Cyprus plans to install 94 additional fast-charging points for electric vehicles by 2028, with an estimated investment of €10 million under the country’s Recovery and Resilience Plan. The expansion will cover passenger cars and heavy commercial vehicles as the government seeks to strengthen the island’s public charging infrastructure.
The programme includes 76 charging points rated at 150 kW for passenger vehicles and 18 units delivering between 200 and 350 kW for heavy-duty vehicles.
Ten Charging Stations Already Installed
The Ministry of Transport has confirmed that 10 fast-charging stations from the programme have already been installed at publicly accessible locations, at a cost of €840,660.
Five are located at hospitals in Nicosia, Larnaca, Limassol, Kyperounta and Famagusta. Other installations include sites at bus terminals and archaeological locations.
Expansion Planned Through 2028
Cyprus currently has 384 publicly accessible charging stations across 221 locations. Nicosia has 76 stations, followed by Limassol with 57, Paphos with 32, Larnaca with 29 and Famagusta with 27.
The government’s rollout schedule includes 16 new passenger-car charging points planned for 2026. In 2027, the programme is expected to add 48 passenger-car charging points and 12 for commercial vehicles, with the remaining installations scheduled for 2028.
The additional infrastructure is intended to improve charging availability for private electric vehicles while supporting the electrification of heavy commercial transport across Cyprus.
