Dutch fleet services company Egala has ordered 175 trucks from Mercedes-Benz Trucks to expand its European operations, combining 155 Actros 1845 LS tractor units with 20 battery-electric eActros 600 trucks. The agreement also includes maintenance and digital fleet management services intended to improve vehicle availability and support more efficient operations.
Egala supplies trucks and drivers to transport and logistics companies, alongside additional operational support. Its business model depends on keeping vehicles available for customers, making reliability and maintenance planning important parts of the new fleet agreement.
Maintenance and Data Services Support Fleet Uptime
Alongside the vehicle order, Egala has signed an international maintenance and repair contract with Mercedes-Benz Trucks. The agreement includes Mercedes-Benz Uptime, a service that monitors the technical condition of vehicles to help identify maintenance requirements and arrange work in advance, with the aim of reducing unplanned downtime.
The fleet will also use Fleetboard, Mercedes-Benz Trucks’ digital fleet management system. The platform analyses driving behaviour and vehicle utilisation, providing information that operators can use to improve driving practices and reduce fuel consumption.
By combining vehicle supply with maintenance and data services, the deal extends beyond the initial purchase of trucks. The approach is intended to help Egala manage vehicle availability and operating performance across its fleet.
Actros Trucks Feature ProCabin and Driver Assistance Systems
The new trucks feature Mercedes-Benz’s ProCabin in GigaSpace and StreamSpace configurations. The vehicles are equipped with the Multimedia Cockpit Interactive 2 and driver assistance technologies designed to support safer operation.
These include Sideguard Assist 2, which helps drivers monitor areas alongside the vehicle during turning manoeuvres, and Active Brake Assist 6 Plus, an advanced braking assistance system.
The equipment combines driver-focused technology with digital fleet services as Egala expands its capacity to serve transport and logistics customers across Europe.
Electric Trucks Add Zero-Emission Capacity
Battery-electric vehicles account for 20 of the 175 trucks in the order, or approximately 11.4%. The remaining 155 vehicles are Actros 1845 LS tractor units, meaning conventionally powered trucks continue to make up most of the fleet expansion.
The inclusion of the eActros 600 nevertheless gives Egala additional capacity to serve customers seeking to reduce emissions from road freight operations. For a company that provides vehicles and drivers to other businesses, electric trucks can help meet customer requirements for lower-emission transport where operating conditions and charging infrastructure permit.
The order combines an expansion of conventional truck capacity with a smaller investment in battery-electric heavy-duty vehicles.
Egala Emphasises Long-Term Partnership
Sjef Boekestijn, Chief Executive of Egala, said the order reflects a broader commitment to collaboration and long-term operational planning.
“This is more than an investment in our fleet. We are investing in a partnership with companies that, like us, think ahead and take a long-term approach. Reliability and continuity are key.”
The combination of new vehicles, maintenance support and fleet data services reflects the importance of operational performance in the commercial trucking sector. For Egala, the agreement adds both conventional and electric trucks while providing tools intended to improve vehicle availability and help customers address changing transport requirements.
