Ford Pro will supply a total of 131 battery-electric vans to Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) by the end of 2026, supporting the German public transport operator’s transition toward lower-emission maintenance and service fleets.
The order includes 49 E-Transit Custom vans and 82 E-Transit vans, which will be deployed across Berlin for maintenance, service and material transport operations.
Electric Vans Support Daily Transit Operations
According to Ford Pro, the vehicles have been configured to meet a variety of operational requirements within BVG’s public transport network.
The E-Transit Custom is equipped with a 64-kilowatt-hour usable battery and a 100-kilowatt electric motor, providing a driving range of up to 331 kilometers under the combined WLTP test cycle and as much as 443 kilometers in urban driving conditions.
The larger E-Transit features a 68-kilowatt-hour battery paired with a 135-kilowatt motor. It offers a combined WLTP range of up to 317 kilometers, increasing to 403 kilometers in city driving, while providing up to 15.1 cubic meters of cargo capacity depending on the vehicle configuration.
BVG Continues Fleet Electrification
The van deployment forms part of BVG’s broader strategy to electrify its vehicle fleet and supporting infrastructure.
In late June, the operator commissioned a new DC fast-charging station for electric buses at Berlin’s Marzahn S-Bahn station. The company is also expanding charging infrastructure and depot facilities to support a growing number of battery-electric vehicles.
BVG plans to procure an additional 270 battery-electric buses by 2027. Once delivered, the operator expects to have approximately 550 electric buses in service, representing about one-third of its fleet of around 1,500 buses.
The investment is part of Berlin’s wider efforts to reduce emissions from public transportation through the gradual adoption of zero-emission commercial vehicles.
