Chery has begun local assembly of its V23 electric sport utility vehicle (SUV) in Thailand, expanding its manufacturing footprint in Southeast Asia as it increases production capacity in the region.
Thailand becomes the second ASEAN country after Indonesia to produce the V23 locally, supporting the company’s strategy to strengthen regional operations.
New Rayong Plant Starts Production
The V23 is expected to be assembled at Chery’s recently inaugurated manufacturing facility in Nikhom Phatthana district in Rayong province.
The factory, which officially opened in April, is focused on completely knocked down (CKD) vehicle assembly. According to local media reports, the site is also preparing to manufacture the Lepas L6 electric vehicle, with its market launch scheduled for July 24.
Chery has allocated about 5 billion baht (approximately €131 million) for the Thai facility, which occupies 104 rai, or roughly 166,400 square meters.
The automaker plans to increase annual production capacity to 80,000 vehicles by 2028. Earlier plans also included adding a dedicated paint shop, although the revised timeline has not been confirmed.
Pricing Unchanged After Local Production
Chery introduced the V23 in Thailand in September 2025 with prices ranging from 699,900 baht to 889,900 baht.
The company has maintained those prices following the start of domestic assembly.
According to the report, more than 5,500 units have been sold in Thailand, and the company says it is prepared to meet monthly demand exceeding 1,000 vehicles.
Two Electric Powertrain Options Available
The V23 is offered in rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations.
The rear-wheel-drive model features a single electric motor producing 100 kilowatts and 180 Newton meters of torque, paired with a 59.93-kilowatt-hour battery. Chery estimates an NEDC driving range of 360 kilometers, a top speed of 140 kilometers per hour and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 11 seconds.
The all-wheel-drive version uses dual electric motors delivering a combined 155 kilowatts and 292 Newton meters of torque. Equipped with an 81.76-kilowatt-hour battery, the model offers an NEDC range of 430 kilometers while reducing the 0-to-100 km/h acceleration time to 7.5 seconds.
India Added to Future Production Plans
Chery is also preparing to expand V23 production beyond Southeast Asia.
According to reports, JSW Motors, the automotive division of India’s JSW Group, has begun testing the model ahead of a planned local launch.
The company is expected to assemble a rebadged version of the V23 at a new factory in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, with production targeted for 2028.
