Mercedes-AMG has expanded its electric CLA lineup with the introduction of the all-electric CLA 45 4MATIC+, a high-performance model that features a three-motor drivetrain and will be offered in both saloon and Shooting Brake body styles.
The new model is the first in the CLA family to use three axial-flux electric motors, with two mounted on the rear axle and one on the front axle. Mercedes-AMG said the configuration delivers a peak system output of 500 kilowatts (kW) and continuous output of 450 kW, providing a maximum torque of 1,759 Newton metres.
Power is distributed through the AMG Performance 4MATIC+ fully variable all-wheel-drive system. Mercedes-AMG previously introduced axial-flux motor technology in the GT 4-Door Coupé and is now bringing the technology to the CLA performance range.
High-Performance EV With 800-Volt Charging Architecture
The CLA 45 4MATIC+ is equipped with a 94 kilowatt-hour battery built on an 800-volt electrical architecture. The system supports DC fast charging at up to 330 kW and AC charging at up to 22 kW, although Mercedes-AMG has not yet released charging time or charging curve details.
According to the manufacturer, the saloon version offers a WLTP driving range of more than 670 kilometres, while the Shooting Brake is rated for more than 640 kilometres.
Mercedes-AMG said the vehicle accelerates from 0 to 100 kilometres per hour in 3.0 seconds, or 2.7 seconds using the one-foot rollout measurement method. Top speed is electronically limited to 250 kilometres per hour and can be increased to 270 kilometres per hour with the optional AMG Dynamic Plus Package.
Combined energy consumption is rated between 16.5 and 19.6 kilowatt-hours per 100 kilometres, depending on the vehicle configuration.
The performance model also features an adaptive suspension system and active aerodynamic components designed to improve stability at higher speeds. Depending on the body style, either a rear spoiler or a roof-edge spoiler automatically enhances downforce.
CLA Plays Larger Role in Mercedes-Benz EV Strategy
The launch comes as Mercedes-Benz continues to strengthen its battery-electric vehicle portfolio following a recovery in global EV sales.
Mercedes-Benz Group said worldwide battery-electric vehicle deliveries increased 11% year over year to 50,400 units during the first quarter of 2026 after declining in 2025. The automaker identified the new CLA family as a key contributor to that growth, adding that strong customer demand has resulted in three-shift production at its Rastatt manufacturing plant in Germany.
With the introduction of the CLA 45 4MATIC+, Mercedes-AMG is extending the CLA lineup into the high-performance electric vehicle segment while expanding the use of its latest electric drivetrain technology.
