Tata Motors has launched the Sierra.ev in India, adding a seventh passenger electric vehicle to its domestic lineup as the automaker seeks to strengthen its position in the country’s growing EV market.
The Sierra.ev is priced between 1.879 million rupees (about €17,389) and 2.599 million rupees (about €24,052), excluding registration charges, insurance and the applicable tax collected at source (TCS).
The company is offering the electric SUV in eight variants, combining five equipment grades with three powertrain configurations.
Up to 665 Kilometers of Driving Range
The Sierra.ev measures 4,340 millimeters in length and has a wheelbase of 2,730 millimeters.
It provides 622 liters of luggage capacity and includes a front storage compartment, or frunk, offering up to 55 liters of additional space. Models equipped with the dual-motor all-wheel-drive system have a reduced frunk capacity of 35 liters.
The standard rear-wheel-drive version uses a rear-mounted electric motor producing 175 kilowatts and 340 Newton meters of torque.
The range-topping all-wheel-drive model adds a front-mounted motor generating 103 kilowatts and 164 Newton meters, enabling a combined system that accelerates from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 5.8 seconds, according to Tata Motors.
Two Battery Options
Customers can choose between 63-kilowatt-hour and 75-kilowatt-hour lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs.
The company said charging either battery from 20% to 80% takes approximately 25 to 26 minutes using fast charging.
Both battery options support vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-load (V2L) bidirectional charging functions, with energy sharing available while maintaining a minimum battery state of charge of 30%.
The Standard-Range Rear-Wheel Drive model offers a claimed driving range of 565 kilometers.
The Long-Range Rear-Wheel Drive version delivers up to 665 kilometers, while the Long-Range All-Wheel Drive variant offers a range of 624 kilometers.
Designed for Outdoor Use
Tata Motors said the Sierra.ev has been developed for customers seeking both everyday driving and light off-road capability.
The company claims gradeability figures of 34% for the standard-range rear-wheel-drive model, 33% for the long-range rear-wheel-drive version and 52% for the all-wheel-drive model.
The SUV has a ground clearance of 205 millimeters.
Broader EV Expansion
The Sierra.ev follows Tata Motors’ strategy to expand its electric vehicle portfolio.
The company is expected to launch the three-row Safari.ev later this year, followed by the first model under its dedicated Avinya electric vehicle brand in 2027.
During the 2025-2026 financial year, Tata Motors sold more than 92,000 electric passenger vehicles, accounting for over 40% of India’s electric car market, according to the company.
Looking ahead, Tata Motors plans to increase its passenger EV lineup to 10 models by the 2030-2031 financial year. It also aims to grow total annual passenger vehicle sales from 640,000 units to more than 1.2 million units, with electric vehicles representing 30% of overall sales by that time.
