Nio reported its highest monthly vehicle deliveries of 2026 in May, driven by growth across its Nio, Onvo and Firefly brands as the Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer continued to broaden its presence in the domestic market.
Nio delivered 37,705 vehicles in May, up 62.3% from a year earlier and 28.4% higher than in April. Deliveries from January through May reached 150,526 units, representing a 68.7% increase from the same period last year.
Nio Brand Remains Largest Contributor
The company’s core Nio brand delivered 20,013 vehicles in May, an increase of 50.8% year-on-year, maintaining its position as the group’s largest sales contributor.
Onvo, Nio’s family-focused sub-brand, delivered 12,029 vehicles during the month, rising 91.5% from a year earlier. The brand also recorded strong month-on-month growth, benefiting from increased market acceptance and an expanding model portfolio.
Meanwhile, Firefly, Nio’s newer compact EV brand, delivered 5,663 vehicles in May, up 53.9% from a year earlier.
Revenue Rises Despite Seasonal Weakness
The delivery growth follows stronger first-quarter financial results compared with the same period in 2025, although performance declined from the preceding quarter.
Nio reported first-quarter revenue of 25.53 billion yuan ($3.2 billion), up 112.2% year-on-year but down 26.3% from the fourth quarter of 2025.
The company attributed the sequential decline to seasonal factors, including softer demand following the traditionally stronger year-end sales period, the impact of the Lunar New Year holiday and lower government incentives for electric vehicles at the beginning of the year.
Nio posted a net loss of 332.1 million yuan during the quarter, a significant improvement from the 6.75 billion yuan loss reported a year earlier. The company had achieved its first quarterly operating and net profit in the fourth quarter of 2025.
New Onvo SUV Targets Family Buyers
In May, Onvo introduced the L80 electric sport utility vehicle in China as part of Nio’s efforts to strengthen its family-oriented EV lineup.
The five-seat SUV was unveiled in Hefei, with customer deliveries scheduled to begin shortly after launch. The model starts at 242,800 yuan ($35,650) with an 85-kWh battery pack included.
Customers choosing Nio’s Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) option can purchase the vehicle from 156,800 yuan and pay a separate monthly battery subscription fee.
ES9 Expands Premium SUV Portfolio
Nio also launched sales of its flagship ES9 electric SUV in China during May, following the model’s debut at Auto China in April.
The ES9, described by the company as an “Executive SUV,” is the largest battery-electric SUV in Nio’s lineup. Pricing starts at 390,000 yuan (about €49,500) under the BaaS program or 498,000 yuan (around €63,000) with the battery included.
