Huawei-backed electric vehicle brand Aito has officially launched the new generation of its flagship M9 sport utility vehicle in China, maintaining the model’s entry price while introducing updated technology, expanded dimensions and enhanced driver-assistance capabilities.
The new Aito M9 starts at 479,800 yuan ($70,760), unchanged from the previous generation and 20,000 yuan below the 499,800-yuan pre-sale price announced in March.
The luxury SUV is available in both battery-electric (BEV) and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) configurations and is offered exclusively in five-seat and six-seat layouts. The four-seat variant available on the previous model has been discontinued.
Aito is offering a total of eight versions of the new M9, with prices ranging from 479,800 yuan to 659,800 yuan.
The standard model measures 5,285 mm in length, 2,026 mm in width and 1,845 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,125 mm.
At the top of the lineup, Aito has introduced two extended Ultimate Edition variants aimed at higher-end buyers. Priced from 649,800 yuan and 659,800 yuan respectively, these models feature an extended body length of 5,402 mm and a wheelbase of 3,236 mm.
The new M9 is built on Huawei’s DriveONE 800-volt high-voltage platform and utilizes silicon carbide power electronics.
The battery-electric version is available with either dual-motor or tri-motor all-wheel-drive systems, delivering up to 903 horsepower.
According to Aito, the tri-motor variant accelerates from 0 to 100 kilometres per hour in 3.99 seconds, while the dual-motor version completes the sprint in 4.5 seconds.
The fully electric model is equipped with a 120-kWh battery pack and offers a maximum driving range of up to 750 kilometres under China’s CLTC testing cycle.
For customers seeking longer driving distances, the extended-range version combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged gasoline engine with dual electric motors.
The EREV variant delivers a pure-electric range of up to 422 kilometres under CLTC standards and a combined driving range of up to 1,405 kilometres with a full battery charge and fuel tank.
Advanced driver-assistance technology plays a central role in the new model. All variants come standard with Huawei’s Qiankun ADS 5 intelligent driving system.
The vehicle is equipped with six LiDAR sensors, a configuration designed to improve environmental perception and support advanced autonomous driving functions.
The launch comes amid intensifying competition in China’s premium electric vehicle market, where domestic manufacturers are increasingly targeting high-end customers with larger, technology-focused SUVs.
The new M9 enters the market as rivals continue to expand their flagship offerings, highlighting growing competition among Chinese automakers in the luxury electric vehicle segment.
Deliveries of the updated Aito M9 are expected to begin shortly following the official market launch.
