Go-Ahead London has introduced 13 battery-electric Alexander Dennis Enviro100EV buses on Transport for London route 322, which operates between Crystal Palace and Clapham Common in south London.
The deployment forms part of a wider rollout of the Enviro100EV platform within Go-Ahead London’s fleet, with a total of 60 units either already in service or scheduled for delivery.
The operator said the buses are the first electric vehicles to enter passenger service from its Sydenham Garage, which opened in September 2025 and has become the company’s 14th depot supporting battery-electric bus operations.
The Enviro100EV is an 8.5-metre electric midibus developed for congested city routes and narrow urban streets.
In the configuration used for London operations, the bus provides seating for 21 passengers along with standing space for 24 additional passengers while maintaining a compact width of 2.35 metres.
Alexander Dennis equips the model with the Driventic VEDS electric driveline and a 354-kWh battery pack.
According to the manufacturer, the battery system is designed to support intensive urban operations on a single charge. The company also said the battery pack is engineered to last through two consecutive seven-year operating contracts under a 15-year battery warranty.
Andy Edwards, managing director of Go-Ahead London, said the new buses would improve service quality on one of south London’s busy transport corridors.
“Route 322 serves some of the busiest and most densely connected parts of south London, and these 13 Enviro100EV buses will deliver a genuinely better experience for the thousands of customers who rely on it every day,” Edwards said.
“Having recently hit the milestone of 1,000 zero-emission buses in London, we’re looking forward to working in close partnership with Alexander Dennis to accelerate that transition further,” he added.
Edwards also reiterated the company’s wider emissions-reduction strategy.
“Alongside the Mayor and Transport for London, we are committed to converting the capital’s bus fleet to zero emission, as part of our wider Group goal of a fully zero-emission fleet across Go-Ahead by 2035,” he said.
Mark Ballam, national account manager at Alexander Dennis, said the compact electric buses were designed to combine maneuverability with the passenger experience of larger vehicles.
“With its deceptive size, ‘big bus’ feel and cutting-edge technology, the Enviro100EV is one of the greenest, most efficient buses on the market,” Ballam said.
The rollout reflects broader efforts across London to electrify public transport fleets and reduce emissions in densely populated urban areas.
