Taiwanese bicycle manufacturer Merida has introduced the ETMO range of electric mountain bikes, positioning the lineup as its most price-focused Bosch-powered eMTB offering to date. The new models aim to attract riders seeking trail capability at lower price points than premium electric mountain bikes, with entry pricing starting at £3,650 (€4,380).
The ETMO series draws design inspiration from Merida’s longer-travel eONE-EIGHTY platform but adapts it into a more versatile format. Depending on specification, suspension travel ranges from 140 mm to 160 mm, combined with mixed wheel sizes intended to balance agility and stability across varied terrain.

All models use mid-drive systems from Bosch, with buyers able to choose between the higher-performance CX motor or the more affordable PX unit. Battery capacities range from 540 Wh to 800 Wh, allowing riders to tailor range and cost to their needs. The lineup includes eight variants, from the entry-level ETMO 400—equipped with a Bosch PX motor, 540 Wh battery, and 140 mm of suspension—to the flagship ETMO 800, which features a CX motor, 800 Wh battery, and 160 mm Marzocchi suspension components.

Merida said cost reductions were achieved through manufacturing efficiencies rather than lower-grade materials. Structural elements such as the motor mount and downtube have been redesigned as a single cast component instead of welded parts, reducing production complexity while improving stiffness and alignment. A similar approach was applied to the seat tube and pivot area to streamline assembly.

The bikes follow Merida’s AGILOMETER sizing concept, allowing riders to choose frame reach and handling characteristics independently of traditional size labels. Standardized components—including SRAM’s UDH derailleur hanger, Boost hub spacing, and conventional headsets—are intended to simplify maintenance. Short 160 mm crank arms across all sizes aim to increase ground clearance and reduce pedal strikes on technical climbs.
By combining established Bosch drive systems, adjustable geometry, and lower pricing relative to high-end competitors, the ETMO range targets a growing segment of riders seeking capable electric mountain bikes without entering the highest price tiers.
