Fleet electrification specialist Zenobē has partnered with The Trans Group and Educational Bus Transportation (EBT) to electrify the school bus fleet serving Copiague Public Schools on Long Island, New York.
Under the project, 10 battery-electric school buses will be deployed to provide zero-emission transportation for around 4,500 K–12 students in the Copiague school district. The rollout is partially funded through the New York School Bus Incentive Program, administered by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). Zenobē will cover additional costs and manage charging infrastructure as part of a turnkey electrification service.

“As a long-time provider of transportation services to Long Islanders, we’re excited to continue the process of bringing clean school buses to our students and drivers,” said Tim Flood, executive vice president of The Trans Group. He said the combination of state funding and Zenobē’s technical expertise would support a smooth transition to electric buses.
The incentive programme is funded through New York State’s Clean Water, Clean Air, and Green Jobs Environmental Bond Act, which aims to accelerate emissions reductions across public services. Zenobē said pairing public funding with private capital and operational expertise enables school districts to adopt electric vehicles without taking on upfront complexity.

“This project shows how private capital and public funding can work together to accelerate transport decarbonization,” said Shreya Malik, managing director at KKR, an investor in Zenobē. She said the partnership demonstrates how established electrification platforms can help operators meet state mandates while delivering cleaner transportation.
Zenobē currently supports more than 3,400 electric vehicles across 120 depots worldwide, with operations in the UK, Australia and New Zealand. The company said it holds close to a 25% share of the UK electric bus market and is continuing to expand its presence in North America.
