Stellantis will discontinue its plug-in hybrid vehicle lineup in North America beginning with the 2026 model year, ending sales of some of the region’s best-selling PHEVs as the automaker adjusts its electrification strategy, according to a report by The Drive.
The move means the Jeep Wrangler 4xe, Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe and Chrysler Pacifica plug-in hybrid will no longer be offered in the U.S. and Canada from the 2026 model year onward. Stellantis said the decision reflects shifting market conditions and customer preferences.

“With customer demand shifting, Stellantis will phase out plug-in hybrid (PHEV) programs in North America beginning with the 2026 model year, and focus on more competitive electrified solutions, including hybrid and range-extended vehicles where they best meet customer needs,” a company spokesperson said.
The Jeep and Chrysler models had been among the top-selling plug-in hybrids in the U.S. market, but they were also affected by quality concerns. In November, Jeep recalled its plug-in hybrid models over a battery-related issue and advised owners not to park indoors or charge their vehicles until repairs were available.

Analysts say demand dynamics may have played a role in the decision, particularly after changes to U.S. federal incentives. Buyers of Stellantis plug-in hybrids can no longer access the $7,500 federal EV tax credit, which had previously supported sales of models such as the Chrysler Pacifica PHEV. More recently, Jeep plug-in hybrids qualified for incentives only through leasing, reducing their appeal to some consumers.
The shift also comes amid a broader reassessment of electrification plans across the auto industry. Looser fuel economy requirements and the suspension of California’s electric vehicle sales mandates have reduced regulatory pressure on automakers to prioritize plug-in and battery-electric vehicles, contributing to a wave of delayed or cancelled EV programs.

Stellantis’ decision adds the Jeep and Chrysler plug-in hybrids to a growing list of electrified models that have been scaled back or discontinued in North America. However, the company is continuing to pursue electrification through alternative approaches. New models such as the Ram 1500 REV pickup and the Jeep Grand Wagoneer equipped with gasoline range extenders are scheduled to launch this year, underscoring Stellantis’ focus on extended-range electric and hybrid technologies rather than traditional plug-in hybrids.
