Great Wall Motor’s electric vehicle brand Ora has launched the Ora 5 compact electric sport utility vehicle in China, stepping up efforts to compete in the country’s highly competitive EV market.
The Ora 5 went on sale on Tuesday with a starting price of RMB 91,800 ($13,040) after limited-time discounts, positioning it among the more affordable fully electric SUVs available in China. The official list prices range from RMB 99,800 to RMB 133,800 across five variants, with an RMB 8,000 discount offered to customers who place orders by December 31.

Ora was originally launched in 2018 and initially focused on the sub-RMB 100,000 compact EV segment. Prior to the Ora 5, the brand had not introduced a new model for more than two years, with its lineup consisting of the Ora Good Cat, Good Cat GT, Lightning Cat and Ballet Cat.
The Ora 5 marks one of the brand’s most significant launches in recent years and signals a renewed push by Ora as competition intensifies in China’s EV sector. During its pre-sales phase last month, the model carried a starting price of RMB 109,800.

The compact SUV measures 4,471 mm in length, 1,833 or 1,844 mm in width, and 1,641 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,720 mm. Its design adopts a more conventional SUV profile, while incorporating styling elements seen on other Ora models, including the Good Cat.
The Ora 5 is positioned to compete with models such as BYD’s Yuan Plus, Geely Auto’s Galaxy E5 and Leapmotor’s B10. It is powered by a single electric motor delivering up to 150 kW (201 horsepower).

Energy is supplied by lithium iron phosphate battery packs from Svolt Energy, with capacities of 45.3 kWh and 58.3 kWh, offering CLTC-rated driving ranges of 480 km and 580 km, respectively. The vehicle is equipped with GWM’s third-generation Coffee Pilot Ultra driver assistance system, which supports Urban and Highway Navigation on Autopilot features.
