The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) has introduced 65 new electric buses into service in Hyderabad, advancing efforts to reduce emissions and modernize public transport in one of South India’s largest metropolitan areas. The buses were manufactured by Olectra Greentech Ltd., a subsidiary of Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Ltd. (MEIL), and formally launched on Wednesday. “Aiming to make public transport in the city cleaner,” the corporation said as it flagged off the new units.
EveyTrans Pvt. Ltd., another MEIL subsidiary, procured the vehicles from Olectra and is operating them for TGSRTC under a Gross Cost Contract (GCC) arrangement. The buses are being deployed on key routes connecting Borabanda, Gachibowli, Isnapur, Kondapur, Miyapur, Ramayampet and Secunderabad, providing service across an estimated 373 residential colonies and several high-density travel corridors.

The model supplied for the contract is a 12-metre low-floor design consistent with the Olectra X2, featuring a 400 mm floor height, a kneeling function for easier boarding, 36 passenger seats and designated wheelchair space.
The new fleet includes wide-ranging passenger and safety features such as pneumatic doors, USB Type-A charging ports, digital displays, vehicle location tracking, fire detection and suppression systems, and CCTV surveillance. Powered by a 180 kW motor and an LFP battery, the Olectra X2 can charge in four to five hours, accelerate from 0–30 kph in under 10.5 seconds, reach a top speed of 70 kph and travel up to 300 kilometres on a single charge.

The deployment is part of a larger order placed by TGSRTC in March 2023 for 50 intercity electric coaches and 500 low-floor city buses, marking the biggest single electric bus procurement in South India. Of the 500 city units, EveyTrans has delivered 325 so far and expects to supply the remaining 175 by January 2026. The 65 buses commissioned this week form part of that ongoing agreement.
