UK motorway service area operator Extra MSA Group and charge point operator Gridserve will deploy seven new electric vehicle Super Hubs across key motorway locations, adding 96 high-power charging (HPC) bays by late 2026. The first site is scheduled to open at Beaconsfield Services in December, followed by installations at Baldock, Cambridge, Cobham, Cullompton, Leeds Skelton Lake and Peterborough, the companies said.
Each location will be equipped with chargers capable of delivering up to 400 kilowatts, allowing compatible electric vehicles to add more than 100 miles of driving range in under ten minutes, according to Gridserve. The new sites will form part of the company’s wider strategy to improve charging speed, reliability and network accessibility across the UK’s strategic road network.

“We’re incredibly proud to expand our partnership with Extra. Both of our organisations share the same vision – putting customers and the planet at the heart of everything we do,” said Gridserve Chief Executive Daniel Kunkel. “Together, we’re building a network that gives EV drivers the confidence to be able to charge quickly, easily and reliably, wherever they travel.”
Extra MSA said the project aligns with its plan to significantly scale fast-charging availability across its estate. “Our ambition has always been to go the ‘Extra mile’ for our customers, whether that’s through great food, drink and retail, high-quality design and amenity, or world-class EV charging,” said Chief Executive Tom Dobson. “Partnering with Gridserve … ensures we can meet the rapidly growing demand for convenient, high-speed charging across our network, while future-proofing our estate to meet evolving customer needs.” Extra has previously said it aims to grow its fast-charging network by 290% before the end of 2026 and is also working with rival operator Ionity at the same service areas.

The expansion will also support Gridserve’s Electric Freightway programme, which is building a dedicated national charging network for electric heavy goods vehicles. Extra will host the first eHGV charging hub at Baldock Services, also due to open in December.
Gridserve said each truck hub will feature four to eight ultra-rapid charging bays designed to accommodate articulated lorries without repositioning. The Electric Freightway is partially funded by the UK government’s Zero Emission HGV and Infrastructure Demonstrator programme and delivered in partnership with Innovate UK.
