Polestar said it will begin integrating Google’s new Gemini AI assistant into its vehicles from 2026, replacing the existing Google Assistant through an over-the-air update applied to models starting with the Polestar 2.
The Swedish electric vehicle maker will preview the technology at the Slush conference in Helsinki on November 19–20, where visitors will be able to test the system in the Polestar 5 prototype.
Gemini, which introduces generative AI capabilities, is designed to deliver more natural and adaptive interaction than traditional voice-command systems.
The feature known as Gemini Live will allow conversational exchanges, follow-up questions and broader assistance functions. According to Google, activation begins with the prompt “Hey Google, let’s talk”, enabling more complex requests, brainstorming tasks and learning support while driving.
The rollout is scheduled to begin in 2026, initially limited to U.S. English. Polestar said the system will require a Google Account, an eligible subscription and users aged 18 or older.
Availability will vary by region and vehicle configuration. Sid Odedra, Polestar’s Head of UI/UX, said the integration reflects the evolution of the brand’s digital interface, adding that Gemini marks a significant step in advancing in-car AI experiences.
Polestar operates in 28 markets across North America, Europe and Asia Pacific with four models currently on sale. The company plans to expand its portfolio with the Polestar 6 roadster and Polestar 7 compact SUV. The brand continues to pursue long-term sustainability goals, including cutting per-vehicle greenhouse gas emissions by half by 2030 and achieving full value-chain climate neutrality by 2040.
