Hyundai Motor is set to deliver 10 County Electric buses to the Indonesian island of Bali, marking the first deployment of electric buses in the country’s leading tourism hub. The order follows a successful tender bid by Hyundai to supply the vehicles through a contract with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), acting on behalf of the Indonesian government.
The County Electric model, previously available only in South Korea, was first launched in 2020 as a compact minibus seating between 15 and 33 passengers. It is equipped with a 128-kWh battery capable of delivering up to 303 kilometers of range on a single charge, while DC fast charging can fully recharge the battery in about 72 minutes. The buses will be used by the local public transport network in Bali as part of the island’s efforts to reduce emissions and promote sustainable mobility.
“It is meaningful that we will provide electric buses to Bali, a destination visited by many tourists from around the world,” said Kim Sung-nam, head of Hyundai Motor’s Asia-Pacific Headquarters. “We plan to help build environmentally friendly transportation systems in major cities across Indonesia.”
Hyundai has been expanding its electric mobility footprint across Indonesia in recent years. In 2023, the automaker supplied County Electric buses to Surabaya, the country’s second-largest city. In 2024, it also formed partnerships with several local charging point operators to install more than 400 EV chargers nationwide, supporting the Indonesian government’s goal of accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles and building a low-emission public transport system.
