A new startup called Evotrex has emerged from stealth mode with plans to launch a hybrid RV trailer powered by both an electric motor and an integrated gas engine, joining a growing number of companies reimagining the recreational vehicle market.
The hybrid trailer, which will debut at the 2026 Consumer Electronics Show, will feature an onboard battery pack to power the living quarters and electronics, while the gas engine will recharge the battery and extend travel range. Evotrex co-founder Alex Xiao said the setup is designed for travelers seeking to go farther off-grid than conventional RVs allow.
“These customers want to bring their gadgets and other equipment on skiing, hunting, fishing, and other activities, and stay in the wild for like four or five days,” Xiao told TechCrunch. “They’re off-grid — off-grid living was not supported before within the RV life.”
Xiao, a former product manager at consumer electronics firm Anker, co-founded Evotrex with Stella Qin, also a former Anker executive. The pair spent seven months researching the RV market before developing their concept, finding that younger customers increasingly sought longer, self-sustained trips away from standard campgrounds.
Evotrex has raised $16 million in seed funding from Anker and Chinese venture firms Unity Ventures, Kylinhall Partners, and Vision Plus Capital. The company employs around 40 people across China and the United States. Xiao said production will primarily take place in China, with final assembly in California.
Xiao acknowledged potential challenges from U.S. trade policies but said the company remains focused on its long-term goal. “The purpose of this company is to bring those kinds of new experiences to the customer,” he said.
