Li Auto has announced the recall of more than 11,000 Li Mega MPVs following a vehicle fire in Shanghai that heightened concerns over the model’s safety. The move impacts nearly half of all Li Mega units delivered since the model’s launch.
According to a notice published on the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) website, the recall covers 11,411 Li Mega MPVs manufactured between February 18 and December 27, 2024. The vehicles may suffer from corrosion and leakage in the cooling aluminum plates of the power battery and front motor controller due to insufficient corrosion protection in the coolant.

This could lead to malfunction warnings, reduced power output, or even complete power loss, with severe cases posing a risk of thermal runaway in the power battery.
Li Auto said it will replace the coolant, power battery, and front motor controller free of charge for affected vehicles. The company’s cloud-based early warning system can alert users in advance of any coolant leak risks. Vehicles that have not shown fault messages are considered safe for continued use, the company added.

Li Auto described the recall as a proactive safety measure following last week’s fire incident involving a Li Mega in Shanghai, which caught fire under its chassis before being engulfed in flames. The company apologized to the vehicle owner and said investigations are ongoing, though no definitive technical conclusions have been reached.
The recall will officially begin on November 7, as Li Auto works to address potential risks and restore consumer confidence in its flagship MPV.
