The 2026 BYD Song L DM-i debuts as an upgraded plug-in hybrid SUV, featuring new comfort technologies, improved safety systems, and enhanced efficiency. With three trim levels priced between 139,800 and 156,800 yuan (approximately $13,980–$15,680), the latest version strengthens BYD’s presence in the mid-size hybrid SUV market with expanded driving range and luxury-oriented upgrades.
Powertrain and Performance
The 2026 Song L DM-i is powered by a 1.5-liter gasoline engine producing 74 kW, paired with a 160 kW electric motor under BYD’s fifth-generation DM hybrid system. This combination delivers a pure-electric range of up to 200 km and a total combined range of 1,630 km under NEDC standards.

Fuel efficiency has been improved, with plug-in hybrid consumption rated at 3.4 L/100 km. The new model also features the DiSus-C intelligent damping system and TBC high-speed tyre blowout control, enhancing stability and ride comfort. Additional driver-assistance functions are provided through BYD’s Tian Shen Eye C system.
Exterior and Design
Retaining the signature large front grille from its predecessor, the Song L DM-i introduces a refined dot-pattern design for a sleeker aesthetic. The front bumper has been redesigned with sharper lines, and angular wheel arches add a stronger visual stance.

The updated semi-hidden door handles blend practicality with modern styling. Two new paint options — Guanyao Grey and Xinghe Beige — join the lineup, offering buyers more customization choices.
Interior and Infotainment
Inside, the Song L DM-i adopts BYD’s latest “Dynasty” family design with a cleaner dashboard layout featuring a column-mounted gear selector and essential physical controls. The upgraded infotainment system includes a KTV mode without a microphone, game center, word puzzles, screen mirroring, navigation handoff, and continuous music playback.

It also offers large-screen video, motion-sickness prevention, animated pets, and 3D dynamic themes for a more engaging user experience. Other premium upgrades include front seats with massage functions and a cold-and-warm storage box integrated into the front console, adjustable between -6°C and 50°C.
Trims, Pricing, and Market Positioning
Available in three trims, the 2026 Song L DM-i starts at 139,800 yuan and tops out at 156,800 yuan, offering a blend of range, comfort, and smart technology at competitive pricing. Positioned as a mid-size SUV, it complements the Song Pro DM-i, giving BYD coverage across the 100,000–170,000 yuan ($10,000–$17,000) plug-in hybrid SUV segment.
In the first half of 2025, the Song L DM-i recorded 70,520 units sold, underscoring its strong market appeal. With its longer range, modernized interior, and advanced driving systems, the 2026 Song L DM-i represents BYD’s continued effort to refine hybrid technology and elevate driving comfort in the growing PHEV SUV market.
