Great Wall Motor’s Tank brand has opened pre-sales for the updated Tank 400 SUV, introducing new configurations and upgraded technology to refresh one of its flagship models. The hybrid SUV is available in Hi4-T and Hi4-Z versions, with prices starting at RMB 309,800 ($43,520) and RMB 329,800, respectively.
Initially launched in September 2023, the Tank 400 was originally offered only in the Hi4-T variant aimed at off-road enthusiasts. The newly added Hi4-Z version is positioned for urban users, offering improved performance and advanced driver assistance while featuring fewer off-road capabilities. GWM describes the Hi4-Z system as a new-generation hybrid powertrain that provides greater off-road potential than standard city SUVs but without the mechanical four-wheel-drive systems typical of dedicated off-road models.

The Tank 400 measures 4,964 mm in length, 1,970 mm in width, and 1,905 mm in height, with a 2,850 mm wheelbase. It uses a 2.0T engine delivering 180 kW peak power and 380 Nm of torque. The Hi4-T variant has a curb weight of 2,770 kg and an electric motor producing 130 kW, enabling 0–100 km/h acceleration in 6.8 seconds. The Hi4-Z model, equipped with dual electric motors and a combined output of 635 kW, achieves 0–100 km/h in 4.3 seconds and weighs 2,950 kg.

Both versions are fitted with ternary lithium batteries offering 37.1 kWh or 59.0 kWh capacities, providing 105 km or 200 km of electric-only range. The model also adds a LiDAR sensor on the roof and integrates GWM’s third-generation Coffee Pilot Ultra system, which supports Navigation on Autopilot (NOA) for both urban and highway driving.
