Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) v14 update is nearing a broad release, with CEO Elon Musk confirming that version 14.2 will be distributed to all vehicles equipped with the automaker’s latest Hardware 4 (HW4/AI4) system. The rollout follows Tesla’s established pattern of limited testing before expanding to the wider fleet once performance and stability have been verified.
Musk’s comments came in response to a post from ΛI DRIVR, an experienced FSD tester on social platform X, who said that “95% of the indecisive lane changes and braking have been fixed in FSD 14.1.2,” and noted they hadn’t needed to take control of the steering wheel in two days. Musk replied, “14.2 for widespread use,” signaling that the new version is nearly ready for full deployment.

The approach mirrors Tesla’s earlier FSD v13 rollout, in which version 13.2 marked the point of general release. Based on current testing cycles and feedback, the v14.2 rollout is expected to begin before the end of the month. Early access users running v14.1.2 have reported notable gains in driving confidence, smoother lane changes, and a sharp reduction in hesitation—issues that have long challenged Tesla’s driver-assistance software.

The v14 update also introduces a new “Mad Max” speed profile, designed to enhance lane selection and overtaking behavior in faster-moving traffic. However, the broader update will be limited to Tesla vehicles equipped with HW4/AI4, as the company has yet to confirm plans for HW3/AI3 vehicles, which remain on v12.6.4 and have not received a major update in nearly a year.
So far, Cybertruck owners have been excluded from the current FSD v14 builds, though the system is expected to reach Tesla’s electric pickup by the end of October.
