Leapmotor’s founder and chief executive Zhu Jiangming has increased his stake in the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker for the second time this year, reinforcing management’s confidence in the company’s growth prospects as it advances product development and global expansion.
According to a filing with the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, Zhu, along with concerted action persons Fu Liquan and his spouse, purchased 3,243,500 shares of Leapmotor (HKG: 9863) on the open market at an average price of HK$63.19 per share, totaling about HK$205 million ($26.4 million). The transaction aims to support Leapmotor’s long-term stability and sustainable development while safeguarding the interests of public investors.

Following the latest purchase, Zhu and Fu’s shareholder group collectively holds 206,949,938 H-shares and 128,517,839 domestic shares, representing 23.59% of the company’s total issued shares. The new investment follows earlier purchases worth HK$316 million in April and HK$300 million last year, signaling consistent confidence from the company’s leadership.
The increased stake coincides with Leapmotor’s latest expansion initiatives. The Stellantis-backed EV maker plans to introduce the first model from its new A-series lineup in the first quarter of 2026. The standard version of the model has already been delivered to suppliers for testing, marking a key milestone in its development. Designed for both the Chinese and European markets, the A-series will feature a smaller body than Leapmotor’s existing B-series lineup to better suit European preferences.

In addition, Leapmotor unveiled its flagship D19 SUV last week, featuring an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variant with the largest battery ever fitted in an EREV model. The six-seat D19 — the debut model in Leapmotor’s D series — will be offered in both EREV and battery electric vehicle (BEV) versions. The EREV variant is equipped with an 80.3-kWh battery pack, capable of delivering up to 500 kilometers of pure electric range.
