Be.EV has launched a new tariff of 39p per kilowatt-hour (kWh) in an effort to make public electric vehicle (EV) charging more affordable and reduce the cost gap faced by drivers without access to home charging.
The company said the new tariff makes Be.EV one of the few operators in the UK offering public charging that is cheaper than refuelling with petrol or diesel. Drivers can access the 39p/kWh rate in two ways: through The Mega plan (£9.99 per month), which provides the rate at any time, or through off-peak hours (7 p.m. to 7 a.m.) for all users. A second plan, The Mini (£4.99 per month), offers charging at 49p/kWh.

According to Be.EV, charging an EV at the new rate costs around 12p per mile—almost half the average cost of public rapid and ultra-rapid charging, which is about 23p per mile. The company said the pricing represents “a national industry benchmark” for affordable public charging.
Be.EV Chief Executive Asif Ghafoor said the company wants to address what he described as “an unequal, unfair public charging system that punishes millions of drivers without driveways.” He added: “For too long, EV charging in the UK has been built for the privileged few with a driveway. Those who rely on public charging—often people in flats, terraced housing, or busy urban centres—are forced to pay much more than those who can plug in at home. That’s not just unfair, it’s a barrier to mass adoption.”

Be.EV said it currently operates more than 850 charge points across the UK, with a further 1,000 in development. The company said it aims to expand access to fast and affordable charging nationwide as electric vehicle adoption continues to grow.
