Geely Auto (HKG: 0175) has begun assembling the Starray EM-i hybrid SUV in Indonesia, marking a significant milestone in the Chinese automaker’s global expansion and strengthening its foothold in Southeast Asia.
The Starray EM-i, sold domestically in China under Geely’s Galaxy sub-brand as the Starship 7 EM-i, entered mass production at the company’s knocked-down (KD) plant in Purwakarta, Indonesia, at the end of September, Geely said. KD production involves assembling vehicles locally from disassembled components to boost localization and supply chain efficiency.

The facility will also assemble the Geely Galaxy E5 — marketed as the Geely EX5 in Indonesia — and the Geely Xingyuan compact hatchback, which received its 2026 model update earlier this week. Geely said the Starship 7 EM-i was launched in Australia last month and will be introduced in nearly 20 markets, including Thailand, South Africa, Mexico, and Italy, before the end of 2025.

First launched in China in December 2023, the compact hybrid SUV measures 4,740 mm in length, 1,905 mm in width, and 1,685 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,755 mm. It is powered by a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery providing 120 kilometers of electric range, while the total combined range with a full tank and charged battery reaches 1,420 kilometers. Prices in China start from RMB 97,800 ($13,710).
