Chinese vacuum cleaner maker Dreame Technology is considering building a factory for luxury electric cars in Germany’s Brandenburg state, though local authorities have yet to confirm the plans.
The company, best known for its high-performance vacuum cleaners and household robots, announced in late August its entry into the premium electric vehicle (EV) market under a new division called Dreame Cars. In a press release earlier this month, the group said its founder and CEO Yu Hao had travelled to Germany with a team to assess potential locations for the factory. “The brand is considering setting up a production plant in Brandenburg,” the statement said, adding that the region’s supply chain could help reduce logistics costs while ensuring efficient distribution across Europe.
Dreame said its first model is scheduled to hit the market in 2027, positioning itself against established ultra-luxury brands such as Bugatti. The company has assembled a team of nearly 1,000 employees, combining researchers from its intelligent hardware business with experts from the automotive sector. It aims to leverage its expertise in high-speed motors, artificial intelligence and sensor technology, currently used in products like its Z50 vacuum cleaner, which features a motor running at 200,000 rpm.
“The luxury automotive sector has been missing a truly intelligent electric hypercar brand,” the company said in a statement quoted by CarNewsChina in August. “While traditional ultra-luxury brands like Bugatti and Bentley have been slow to embrace electrification and intelligence, Dreame will redefine what constitutes ultra-luxury in the next automotive era.” Early visualisations of Dreame’s hypercar, released by Chinese media, show a design bearing similarities to the Bugatti Chiron.
Dreame is not the first consumer electronics company to diversify into e-mobility. British vacuum maker Dyson launched an EV project in 2017 but scrapped it two years later. Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi, by contrast, has successfully entered the sector and is selling two models domestically.
