U.S. electric vehicle maker Rivian is testing its 2025.34 software update internally and plans to roll out the release soon for both Gen 1 and Gen 2 vehicles, the company said, amid a separate recall affecting its R1S SUVs and R1T pickup trucks.
The recall, announced by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on Friday, covers 24,214 vehicles due to a software defect that may cause the hands-free Highway Assist system to misidentify lead vehicles. The issue affects vehicles running software prior to version 2025.18.30. Rivian said that in rare cases, the system could misclassify a situation at very low speeds, resulting in a one-time functional limitation.

For Gen 1 vehicles, the 2025.34 update introduces a Smart Charging Schedule Recommendation, which shifts charging to off-peak hours to reduce costs and emissions. Other enhancements include faster touchscreen response, smoother navigation, improved range-on-arrival estimates considering high-elevation air density, and audio refinements with customizable equalizer profiles. Bug fixes address Gear Guard video thumbnails, tonneau cover positioning, and fog light displays.
Gen 2 vehicles will receive updates to Highway Assist, including a new Co-Steer function allowing drivers to gently adjust lane position without disengaging, improved lane centering on moderate to tight curves, and expanded availability on urban and suburban highways. A digital key can now be stored and shared via Apple Wallet, Google Pixel, or Samsung devices. Audio improvements include richer bass, enhanced Dolby Atmos blending, and better soundstage separation.

Rivian also highlighted performance improvements such as faster touchscreen operation, improved mobile command reliability, quieter climate control startups, and enhanced 12-volt battery health detection with new alerts.
