Chinese automaker Geely Auto’s sub-brand Geely Galaxy announced that it will launch its new M9 hybrid SUV on September 17 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, the company’s headquarters. The vehicle is expected to compete aggressively in China’s large hybrid SUV segment.
The M9, which made its global debut in Milan in May, is built on Geely’s Electric Architecture (GEA) and uses the next-generation Leishen EM Super Hybrid system. Geely Galaxy highlighted the vehicle’s AI capabilities on social media, stating, “AI makes life better!”
Pre-sales for the six-seat SUV began in China on August 23, with six variants priced from RMB 193,800 ($27,130) to RMB 258,800. The company said the model received more than 40,000 pre-orders within the first 24 hours.
The M9 measures 5,205 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width, and 1,800 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,030 mm. The dimensions are comparable to the Li Auto Li L9 extended-range electric vehicle, which starts at RMB 409,800. Geely Galaxy’s pricing positions the M9 at roughly half the cost of the Li L9, according to the company.
The SUV features Geely Galaxy’s Agent OS, described as the industry’s first AI-driven automotive cockpit. It offers battery options of 18.4 kWh and 41.46 kWh, with CLTC ranges of 100 km and 230 km, or WLTC ranges of 85 km and 185 km. Combined with a full tank of fuel, the M9 can achieve up to 1,500 km in range.
Powertrain options include front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, with the most powerful variant producing 640 kW (859 horsepower) and 1,165 Nm of torque. Geely Galaxy said this enables acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds.
