Chinese electric vehicle maker Nio has standardized its 100‑kWh long-range battery pack across all models sold in China, effectively lowering vehicle prices by up to 38,000 yuan ($13,000), the company said on Monday.
The change affects Nio’s ET5, ET5 Touring, ES6, EC6, ET7, and EC7 models, which previously came with 75‑kWh batteries. Starting prices for vehicles equipped with the 100‑kWh pack remain the same as the prior 75‑kWh pricing, but the adjustment reflects an effective reduction of up to 38,000 yuan. The ET5 and ET5 Touring now start at 298,000 yuan, down from 336,000 yuan, while other models see reductions of 7.7 % to 10.1 %.
All Nio models with the 100‑kWh battery now achieve a China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC) range of around 700 km, with the ET5 sedan reaching up to 740 km. The 75‑kWh pack remains available, with Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) monthly subscriptions priced at 728 yuan for the smaller battery and 1,128 yuan for the 100‑kWh pack. Customers using BaaS can access Nio’s battery swapping stations.
The move comes after Nio drivers had voiced concerns about battery performance on social media, prompting the automaker to offer longer-range packs at lower effective prices. The change currently applies only to the Chinese market, with smaller battery options still available for international markets, including Germany.
