Raleigh has unveiled a new version of its Captus electric bike, offering a combination of name-brand components, practical design, and accessible pricing. The model is priced at £1,899 (approximately $2,400 USD), positioning it as one of the most affordable electric bikes featuring a Bosch mid-drive motor.
The Captus is equipped with the Bosch Active Line motor, which provides 40 Nm of torque, paired with a 400Wh PowerPack battery. The e-bike delivers a top-assisted speed of 15.5 mph (25 km/h), keeping it compliant with UK and EU regulations. The low-step frame design facilitates easy mounting and dismounting, while a mid-step variant is also available. Both models come with a 9-speed Shimano CUES transmission suitable for city commuting and light suburban climbs.
Designed with simplicity and commuter convenience in mind, the mid-step version features a rigid fork, mudguards, rear rack, and integrated lights, while the step-through model includes a 50 mm suspension fork for additional comfort. Riders benefit from upright geometry, a Selle Royal Essenza saddle, ergonomic grips, and 50 mm wide tires, providing a smoother ride compared with typical urban bike tires.
The Bosch Purion display provides basic functionality, showing battery level, assist mode, and speed. Raleigh emphasizes that the Captus is aimed at casual riders seeking a reliable and affordable entry into Bosch-powered e-bikes, without the complexity of high-end models.
The Captus represents Raleigh’s effort to make mid-drive electric bikes more accessible, balancing quality components with practicality and cost-effectiveness for urban and suburban commuters.
