Polish bus maker Solaris said it has signed a contract with Nobina Sverige AB to supply 180 electric buses to Malmö, marking one of its largest orders in Sweden. Deliveries are scheduled between 2026 and 2027.
The agreement covers Solaris Urbino electric buses in four different lengths — 12, 15, 18 and 24 meters — to serve both urban and suburban routes. The order includes 78 articulated Urbino 18 buses with 600 kWh batteries, 36 Urbino 24 bi-articulated buses with 700 kWh batteries, 65 Urbino 15 LE low-entry buses with 500 kWh batteries, and one Urbino 12 bus with a 400 kWh battery.
“This wide range of vehicle lengths and configurations will allow for optimal fleet adaptation to the diverse operational needs of the city and its surroundings,” Solaris said in a statement.
Malmö, Sweden’s third-largest city, has been an important market for Solaris in recent years. The company has previously supplied 12-meter trolleybuses and 15- and 18-meter e-buses to the city, one of the few in Europe to operate 24-meter bi-articulated models in regular traffic.
“We are proud to continue our cooperation with Nobina, a leader in zero-emission transport in Sweden,” said Sverre Skaar, CEO of Solaris Sverige AB. “Thanks to our experience, built up over years of presence in the Scandinavian market, we are pleased to support the next stages of Malmö’s electrification, a city that is now almost fully ready for an entirely electric public transport system.”
Solaris, part of Spain’s CAF Group, has been active in Sweden since 2003 and has delivered more than 850 buses to the country, over 200 of which are zero-emission models supplied in recent years. Nobina, the largest public transport operator in the Nordic region, has previously taken deliveries of 55 electric buses for Stockholm and 28 units for Nobina Skåne. In early 2025, it also ordered 89 Urbino 15 LE buses.
