Xos, Inc., a U.S. manufacturer of battery-electric commercial vehicles, said its mobile charging solution, the Xos Hub, has qualified for California’s Clean Off-Road Equipment (CORE) Voucher Incentive Project. The approval makes the high-capacity unit eligible for a $110,000 incentive, reducing its cost to below $100,000 and making it more accessible to fleets compared with traditional DC fast charging systems, which can cost more than $200,000. The company announced the development this week.
The Xos Hub integrates 282 kilowatt-hours of onboard energy storage with four DC fast chargers and is designed for deployment without permanent infrastructure or utility upgrades. Already in use at seaports, airports, construction zones, and logistics facilities, the unit enables charging for heavy-duty electric forklifts, ground support equipment, yard tractors, and other off-road vehicles. Customers include Caltrans, Duke Energy, Xcel Energy, TECO Energy, and Highland Fleets.
“Securing CORE eligibility for the Hub is a milestone in accelerating fleet electrification,” said Aldan Shank, Director of Mobile Charging at Xos. “By bringing the cost under $100,000, we are removing key economic and logistical barriers for operators.”
The CORE program, administered by the California Air Resources Board (CARB), provides point-of-sale discounts for zero-emission off-road equipment and offers additional funding for deployments in disadvantaged communities and small businesses. Unlike some other state programs, CORE does not require vehicle scrappage, enabling faster adoption.
Xos said the transportable design makes the Hub well-suited for temporary depots, remote job sites, or event operations where grid access is limited. The company, which builds Class 5 and 6 battery-electric trucks, also develops charging infrastructure and software solutions aimed at reducing the total cost of ownership compared with internal combustion models.
