Ferrari is moving forward with plans to launch its first fully electric vehicle next spring, and recent sightings suggest the Italian marque may be benchmarking one of China’s most advanced performance EVs—the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra—as part of its development process.
A Xiaomi SU7 Ultra sedan, finished in the distinctive yellow-and-silver livery widely used in the model’s marketing campaigns, was recently spotted outside Ferrari’s headquarters in Maranello. While it is common practice for automakers to study competitors’ models, the appearance of a Chinese EV on Ferrari grounds reflects a shifting landscape in global automotive innovation.
The SU7 Ultra has attracted international attention with its performance credentials. It currently holds the fastest lap time for an electric production car at the Nürburgring, clocking 7:04.957, surpassing the Porsche Taycan by nearly three seconds. A separate prototype version posted an unofficial time of 6:22.091, faster than most purpose-built race cars, save for Volkswagen’s ID.R and Porsche’s 919 Evo.
Underneath its coupe-sedan design, the SU7 Ultra features a triple-motor electric drivetrain delivering 1,526 horsepower and a top speed of 223 mph (359 km/h). Its acceleration from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) is listed at 1.98 seconds. The combination of speed, range, and power management is believed to be of particular interest to Ferrari engineers, who are known for their emphasis on handling and long-duration performance.

Ferrari’s upcoming EV—tentatively referred to as the Elettrica—is expected to debut in spring 2026. According to company insiders, the model will be produced in limited numbers as a transitional product for the brand’s entry into electric mobility. A second, more mainstream electric model with a crossover-style profile was previously planned, but has reportedly been delayed until 2028 amid softer-than-expected demand for high-end electric vehicles.
The interaction between Ferrari and Xiaomi may be mutual. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun, a known car enthusiast, was seen driving a Ferrari Purosangue SUV last year and is reportedly following Ferrari’s electric developments closely as the two automakers navigate the evolving high-performance EV segment.
