Hyundai’s upcoming entry-level electric vehicle, the Ioniq 2, has been seen in public for the first time, ahead of its official unveiling expected later this year.
The compact crossover, intended to expand Hyundai’s electric vehicle (EV) portfolio in Europe, was spotted in camouflage in South Korea, signaling that launch preparations are underway.
The Ioniq 2 is expected to be formally introduced at the IAA Mobility Show in Munich this September, according to Hyundai Europe President Xavier Martinet. Positioned between the newly introduced Inster EV and the Kona Electric, the Ioniq 2 will be built on the same Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) shared by other Ioniq and Kia EV models.

Designed as a direct counterpart to the forthcoming Kia EV2, the Ioniq 2 will likely feature two battery options: a 58.3 kWh standard range and an 81.4 kWh extended range pack. Preliminary estimates suggest a range of up to 267 miles (WLTP) for the standard model and up to 372 miles for the extended version. Both are expected to be powered by a front-mounted electric motor delivering 201 horsepower.
The vehicle is also expected to introduce Hyundai’s new software platform, Pleos, which integrates infotainment, operating system functions, and cloud connectivity into a unified, software-defined architecture.
The Android-based system will offer a smartphone-like interface with multi-window viewing, an AI voice assistant, and support for future features such as semi-autonomous driving and real-time data processing.
Pricing is expected to start at around €30,000 ($35,400), positioning it as one of the most accessible models in Hyundai’s European EV lineup. Final specifications and pricing details will be released closer to launch.
The Ioniq 2 is not expected to be offered in the United States, as Hyundai focuses on larger SUV models for the North American market, including the Ioniq 5 and upcoming Ioniq 9.
