Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturer BYD has delivered its 90,000th vehicle in Thailand, coinciding with the one-year anniversary of operations at its local factory, the company said on Monday.
The milestone vehicle, a Denza D9 multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) from BYD’s premium sub-brand, was handed over by BYD chairman Wang Chuanfu to Nualphan Lamsam, president of the Football Association of Thailand.
The delivery comes as BYD’s Thai factory, its first wholly owned overseas passenger car production site, marks a full year of operations. The plant began production on July 4, 2024, with the first locally built vehicle marking the company’s 8 millionth unit globally. Located in Thailand’s Eastern Economic Corridor, the factory has an annual capacity of 150,000 vehicles.
The Thai facility currently assembles the all-electric Dolphin and Seal models, as well as the Atto 3 SUV — known domestically in China as the Yuan Plus. The latest model to roll off the assembly line is the BYD Chaser 05 plug-in hybrid, which will be marketed in Thailand as the Seal 5 DM-i.
BYD officially entered the Thai market in 2022 via vehicle imports before beginning local production. Its Denza sub-brand debuted in the country in November 2024 with the launch of the D9 MPV.
The company sold 21,458 vehicles in Thailand between January and May this year, marking a 66.5% increase year-on-year, according to figures from market research firm MarkLines. Globally, BYD reported June sales of 382,585 NEVs — its highest monthly total in 2024 — including 90,049 units shipped overseas, a 234% increase from a year earlier.
