Kia has opened UK order books for its new EV4, the automaker’s first fully electric C-segment hatchback, with prices starting from £34,695. The EV4 is available with two battery sizes and offers a maximum WLTP range of up to 388 miles, making it Kia’s most long-range electric model to date.
The base ‘Air’ model features a 58.3kWh battery, providing up to 273 miles of range. The top-tier ‘GT-Line S’ trim, priced at £43,895, is equipped with an 81.4kWh battery capable of up to 388 miles in its long-range configuration. All variants are powered by a front-mounted 150kW (201bhp) electric motor, delivering 0-62mph in 7.5 seconds and a top speed of 105mph.
Kia says the EV4 supports ultra-fast charging, with 10-80% charging times as low as 29 minutes on a 350kW DC charger. AC charging from 10 to 100% takes between 5 hours 20 minutes and 7 hours 15 minutes depending on battery size using an 11kW onboard charger.
“EV4 marks the latest step in Kia’s Plan S business strategy, which will see 15 EVs launched by Kia globally by 2030; nine of which are destined for the UK,” the company said in a statement.
The hatchback, which was first unveiled in February, uses a version of Kia’s E-GMP electric platform adapted for its lower profile. It boasts a drag coefficient of 0.27Cd and 435 litres of boot space. Interior features include dual 12.3-inch displays, a 5.3-inch climate control touchscreen, and the brand’s new AI Assistant powered by ChatGPT.
While the EV4 plays a central role in expanding Kia’s European EV presence, the company recently adjusted its global targets, cutting its 2030 EV sales goal from 1.6 million to 1.26 million vehicles. UK customers will receive EV4 units built in Slovakia, which is expected to shorten delivery times.
