Shell partnering with BYD for developing an electric vehicle battery charging network

As an answer to the challenges of the electric vehicle era, Shell, as a provider of fuel for conventional cars, is now fulfilling its commitment to electrification by partnering with an electric vehicle manufacturer from China, BYD.

Shell and BYD will focus on developing an electric vehicle battery charging network. Through this collaboration, Shell and BYD are targeting to set up 10,000 electric vehicle battery charging points in Shenzhen first.

Later, they will expand the scope of providing these battery charging stations to several other areas.

Cooperation between the two companies will focus on Europe and China first. Going forward, this step will begin to expand to other countries and regions in the near future.

In addition, Shell and BYD are also reportedly planning to develop a car fleet solution and a dedicated aisle electric car charging service for BYD customers in Europe.

On a global scale, Shell will work to further assist BYD in reducing costs and improving hardware performance through its advanced technologies and products such as E-Fluid and coolants.

In fact, they also have plans to conduct RnD cooperation around the world for areas such as battery performance and more sophisticated battery charging.

Previously Shell Selects Tritium as global charger supplier for their fuel stations networks. Electric charger services will be available at Shell gas stations with a target of operating 500,000 EV charging points by 2025 and 2.5 million by 2030.
