Nio’s third sub-brand, Firefly, has officially started deliveries of its first electric vehicle (EV) model in China, following the model’s launch on April 19.
The first deliveries were marked by ceremonies in Guangzhou and Hangzhou, where Nio founder and CEO William Li, as well as Firefly’s president Daniel Jin, were present.

The Firefly EV, which shares its name with the brand, is priced from RMB 119,800 ($16,470) and is positioned to compete in the urban micro-mobility market, similar to models from BMW Mini and Mercedes-Benz Smart.
The model supports Nio’s Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) program, allowing customers to purchase the vehicle body separately from the battery, though this feature will not be available until August 1, 2025.
Although Firefly initially planned to launch in Europe first, high tariffs prompted a change in strategy. Firefly is now set to introduce its first model to European markets between June and August 2025, with a right-hand-drive version expected by October.

The brand aims to expand to around 20 international markets by the end of this year, with localized pricing and sales strategies.
At the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show, Firefly’s vehicles were displayed alongside Nio’s, with Onvo, another Nio sub-brand, occupying a separate booth. Firefly’s launch is part of Nio’s broader expansion strategy into global markets.
