General Motors and Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) have launched a Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) pilot program in Central and Northern California, offering participating customers up to $4,500 in rebates on GM Energy home products.
The pilot aims to assess how bidirectional charging technology can benefit customers and improve grid stability. Participants must own a GM electric vehicle with bidirectional capabilities, including the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV, Equinox EV, Blazer EV, Cadillac Lyriq EV, GMC Sierra, and select 2025 models.

“For Northern California customers looking to take more control of their home energy, this program with PG&E represents a great opportunity,” said Wade Sheffer, GM Energy’s vice president. “This pilot showcases the unique advantages of EVs while potentially reducing ownership costs in the future.”
PG&E Vice President Mike Delaney said the initiative “creates a path for EVs to power customer homes, benefiting all Californians,” adding that bidirectional charging could improve grid reliability and cost savings.

Participants may also qualify for additional incentives by remaining in the program and participating in planned backup power events.
The program follows a similar initiative by Ford in Southern California, which began in late 2024 with Southern California Edison. Ford’s project initially focused on smart charging, with bidirectional capabilities planned for a later phase.
