Chinese manufacturer Shenhuo New Materials Technology has begun mass production of an 8-micron double-sided photovoltaic cell foil, marking a milestone in the country’s battery components industry.
The company says it can produce approximately 100 tons of the ultra-thin foil per month, making it the slimmest battery foil currently in large-scale production in China.

The foil, which serves as a current collector in lithium-ion batteries, is designed to enhance battery energy density and performance. “Making the foil thinner improves battery energy density and overall performance,” said Mao Yunfeng, deputy general manager at Shenhuo New Materials.
Targeted at high-end battery applications, the 8-micron foil is intended for use in mobile phones, 3C electronics, and robotic power systems. It offers improved conductivity and stability during charging, the company said.

Shenhuo New Materials currently has an annual production capacity of 140,000 tons for battery and double-zero foil, 180,000 tons of cast-rolled foil, and 150,000 tons of cold-rolled foil. The company is also expanding its battery foil billet production to 110,000 tons per year.
Looking ahead, the firm plans to develop even thinner aluminum foils, aiming to strengthen China’s position in the global aluminum foil manufacturing sector.
