Hyundai says the IONIQ 6 electric sedan has earned the highest safety rating from an independent vehicle assessment organization in Europe.

The IONIQ 6 received a five-star safety rating from the European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP) in four categories, the company said in a statement.

Euro NCAP tests the IONIQ 6 in four assessment categories, including adult occupant safety, rear-seat child safety, safety assist systems, and pedestrian and bicycle safety on the road

The IONIQ 5 using the same platform has also received a maximum five-star safety rating from the European organisation.

The IONIQ 6 is the second model to be embedded with the Hyundai Motor Group’s dedicated electric vehicle global modular platform after the IONIQ 5, which was launched in April last year.

The electric sedan is part of Hyundai’s plans to issue 13 electric vehicle models by 2030 out of the current six models, namely three from Hyundai and three from the independent Genesis brand.
