SEA Electric and Midwest Transit Equipment (MTE) have partnered to upgrade 10,000 school buses in the US Midwest with battery-electric power systems over the next five years.

SEA Electric is an Australian company with US headquarters in Torrance, California, focused on making electric batteries for commercial vehicles. Meanwhile, Midwest Transit Equipment (MTE), headquartered in Illinois, is one of the largest school bus dealers in the US.

With this partnership, MTE will be able to provide electric-converted buses at a lower cost than the new electric school buses.

The deal will cover Type A and Type C school buses, and deliveries will take place over the next five years.

Each bus will have the ability to provide full vehicle-to-grid capability, with the SEA-Drive power system capable of feeding power back to the grid, increasing stability when connected to a charging station.
