Zeekr has taken a key regulatory step toward launching its new 8X plug-in hybrid SUV in China, after the model appeared in a catalog released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), clearing the way for market entry.

The Zeekr 8X was included in the latest MIIT disclosure published on Thursday, with public feedback on the filing open from Jan. 9 to Jan. 15. The model will be produced at Zeekr’s manufacturing facility in Ningbo, in China’s eastern Zhejiang province, and will become the company’s second hybrid vehicle following the Zeekr 9X.

According to the regulatory data, the Zeekr 8X will be offered in both five-seat and six-seat configurations. The SUV measures 5,100 mm in length, 1,998 mm in width and 1,780 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,069 mm, placing it slightly below the larger Zeekr 9X in overall size. Curb weight ranges from 2,660 kg to 2,820 kg, while the maximum listed speed is 220 km/h.

The plug-in hybrid SUV is powered by a 1,974 cc internal combustion engine with a maximum output of 205 kW. Battery options include 55.1 kWh and 70 kWh ternary lithium packs, supplied by a joint venture between CATL and Geely Auto. Depending on configuration, the declared electric-only driving range is between 256 km and 328 km.

Zeekr first disclosed plans for the 8X during a company conference call in May 2025, initially indicating a launch in the fourth quarter of that year. The rollout was later delayed as the automaker prioritised updates to several existing models in the second half of 2025. Zeekr began previewing the 8X at the end of December and released additional information earlier this month.

Chinese automotive media have reported that the Zeekr 8X is expected to debut in the first quarter of 2026, with pricing projected to start at around 400,000 yuan ($57,290) and a core sales range between 450,000 yuan and 500,000 yuan. By comparison, Zeekr launched its first hybrid model, the six-seat Zeekr 9X, in September with a starting price of 465,900 yuan.
