Zeekr, the electric vehicle sub-brand of Chinese auto giant Geely has officially launched its second model, the 009 electric MPV.
Zeekr announced the official launch of Zeekr 009 at an event yesterday, and it is now available in two versions, the WE version and the ME version, starting at RMB 499,000 ($68,560) and RMB 588,000, respectively.
The 009 measures 5209mm in length, 2024mm in width and 1867mm in height. The wheelbase is 3205mm.
Zeekr 009 is the company’s second production vehicle after the successful Zeekr 001 in the market. The electric MPV uses the SEA electric vehicle platform and is the first production car to receive CATL’s new third-generation cell-to-pack Qilin battery.
CATL’s new third-generation cell-to-pack Qilin battery with a capacity of 140kWh is claimed to give the 009 a range of up to 822km. This makes the Zeekr 009 the world’s first electric MPV with a range of over 700 km, and its range performance exceeds 99 percent of currently available internal combustion engine vehicles, according to Zeekr CEO An Chunghui.
The new battery is coupled with two synchronous motors producing a combined 400kW that can accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 4.5 seconds.
The 009 electric MPV uses a dual-wishbone suspension up front and a multi-link setup at the rear. The optional air suspension provides automatic self-leveling and an electromagnetic vibration reduction system.
The distinctive exterior styling and boxy silhouette of the 009 was developed by the Geely team of designers at the Zeekr global design center in Gothenburg, Sweden, under new design boss Stefan Sielaff.
Key elements include a silver plated ‘Spring of Light’ grille consisting of 154 programmable LED lights to provide what Zeekr describes as a ‘different scenario’.
The headlights, located on the front edge in front of the short but flat hood, are each made up of five different lighting elements.
At Tuesday’s launch, Zeekr said deliveries of the Zeekr 009 are expected to officially begin in January 2023.
Like the Zeekr 001, the Zeekr 009 continues to use Mobileye’s assisted driving solution.
This model’s assisted drive system comes standard with two 7nm process-based Mobileye EyeQ5H chips, seven 8-megapixel HD cameras, four 2-megapixel surround view cameras, one long-range millimeter wave radar, 12 short-range ultrasonic radars.
