Zeekr, an emerging player in the electric vehicle market, is catching attention with its 001 FR model, a sedan-shaped electric car equipped with four electric motors. While the capability of performing tank turns isn’t new—Rivian initially showcased this feature but later withdrew it due to concerns of potential trail damage—it’s rare to see a sedan executing such maneuvers. “Provided they have the quad motor hardware, there’s no reason why regular sedans can’t perform such stunts,” as demonstrated by Zeekr’s 001 FR.
When it comes to performance metrics, Zeekr’s FR stands as a formidable rival to Tesla’s Model S Plaid. The FR is rated at a staggering 1,248 horsepower and 944 lb-ft of torque, slightly edging out the Tesla Plaid’s 1,006 horsepower. However, both vehicles claim a 2.1-second 0-62 mph acceleration time, although Tesla maintains a higher top speed of 200 mph compared to Zeekr’s 174 mph.
Beyond its motor configuration, the FR sets itself apart with a carbon fiber body kit, featuring a front splitter, side skirts, a rear diffuser, and a sizable trunk spoiler. While the roof and mirror caps are also made from carbon fiber, the 22-inch wheels are constructed from aluminum alloy and paired with 16.5-inch Brembo carbon ceramic front discs and AP calipers.
Currently available only in China, the 001 FR might soon enter the European market. In a recent interview with Auto News Europe, Alessandro Massimino, Zeekr Europe’s Head of Product and Connectivity, stated that the company is “evaluating the cost of homologating the 001 FR for the European market to act as a halo model for the brand”
