Yamaha, renowned for its innovation in the motorcycle industry, is gearing up to introduce its electric scooter, the E01, in the European market. After successful testing and leasing programs in several Asian countries, the company aims to capitalize on the growing demand for electric mobility across Europe. The Yamaha E01 stands out by combining the convenience and practicality of a traditional scooter with a cutting-edge electric drivetrain, promising a thrilling ride for urban commuters.
Originally unveiled as a concept at the Tokyo Motor Show in October 2019, the Yamaha E01 has undergone significant development to meet the expectations of electric scooter enthusiasts. Departing from the rear hub-mounted motor commonly found in cheaper models, the E01 features an electric motor positioned in front of the swingarm, enhancing balance and stability. This forward-thinking design not only enhances performance but also ensures a familiar riding experience for scooter enthusiasts.

Performance-wise, the Yamaha E01 boasts numbers similar to those of a gas-powered 125cc motorcycle, but its electric powertrain is expected to deliver even greater acceleration. The electric motor, rated at 8.1 kilowatts (equivalent to approximately 11 horsepower), propels the scooter with ease. Complementing its power, the E01 draws energy from a 56.3-ampere-hour, 87.6-volt battery pack, weighing 21 pounds. Yamaha estimates that the real-world range will be approximately 65 miles, with a top speed of 62 miles per hour. It is important to note that this range is achievable at average speeds not exceeding 45 miles per hour. Additionally, Yamaha has incorporated a fast-charging system, enabling the scooter to recharge in just one hour. Alternatively, a full charge can be obtained within five hours using a regular household outlet.
Besides its impressive performance, the Yamaha E01 prioritizes practicality. The scooter features a spacious under-seat storage compartment with 23 liters of space, capable of accommodating a full-face helmet and daily essentials. This thoughtful addition enhances the scooter’s utility, making it an ideal choice for urban commuters.
