Yamaha, renowned for its motorcycle innovations, continues to make strides in the electric bicycle sector. With over three decades of experience, the company not only produces electric bicycles but also supplies e-bike motors to other prominent brands, including Giant. Yamaha’s latest contribution to the electric bicycle industry comes in the form of the PWseries C2, a cutting-edge e-bike motor designed for urban and commuter applications, aligning with European regulations and emphasizing lightweight design and versatility.
The PWseries C2 builds upon the technology found in Yamaha’s popular PW-CE motor range, offering a 10 percent increase in torque compared to its predecessors. This enhanced torque delivers improved all-around performance tailored to urban riding, where agility and efficiency are paramount. Furthermore, its compact dimensions provide e-bike designers with the flexibility to integrate the motor seamlessly into various frame designs.

Weighing in at a mere seven pounds (three kilograms), the PWseries C2 stands out as a lightweight solution ideally suited for compact urban e-bikes. While it may not be the most powerful motor on the market, producing 39 pound-feet (55 Newton-meters) of torque, it possesses the capability to tackle challenging inclines and transport both riders and cargo effectively. Yamaha has also equipped the PWseries C2 with advanced technology that can automatically adapt the motor’s performance based on terrain and other factors.
The motor’s innovative sensors enable the Automatic Support Mode, which seamlessly transitions between four different assist settings to match varying riding conditions. Cyclists also have the option to manually select their preferred assistance level, with choices ranging from Eco+, Eco, Standard, to High. These settings can be accessed via a mobile app or a bike-mounted controller, depending on the specific e-bike models featuring the PWseries C2. Additionally, the motor incorporates a Walk Assist feature, automatically providing assistance at walking speeds, making it convenient for navigating pedestrian zones.
