Chinese electric vehicle maker Xpeng unveiled a new fast-charging variant of its P7+ electric sedan at the 2025 Shanghai auto show, enhancing its mid-to-large-size offering with upgraded battery technology capable of significantly reducing charging times.

The newly introduced P7+ variant is equipped with a 5C charging multiplier battery pack and is priced from RMB 208,800 ($28,570). This upgrade allows the vehicle to charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in approximately 12 minutes, providing a driving range of up to 420 kilometers with a 10-minute charge.

The 5C designation indicates the battery’s charging rate, with 5C referring to a capacity to charge at five times the battery’s rated capacity per hour, making it a substantial improvement over the previous 3C lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, which required 20 minutes for a comparable charge.

Xpeng originally launched the P7+ sedan in November 2024 with three variants, priced at RMB 186,800, RMB 198,800, and RMB 218,800. With the latest addition, the top-end variant has been replaced, maintaining the total number of configurations at three.

The debut follows Xpeng’s broader rollout of upgraded battery packs across its lineup. The company recently launched updated versions of its G6 and G9 SUVs and the X9 multi-purpose vehicle, all of which come standard with 5C battery technology capable of charging at up to 530 kW.

The move underscores Xpeng’s continued investment in fast-charging infrastructure and battery innovation, positioning the automaker to better compete in China’s increasingly technology-driven EV market.
