Xpeng is set to unveil its next-generation P7 electric sedan in Beijing on August 6, marking a significant update to one of the company’s key models. The new version, internally codenamed E29, follows the original P7 launched in 2020 and aims to strengthen Xpeng’s position in the premium EV market.
The company began teasing the redesigned P7 in May, announcing that the model would enter the market in the third quarter of 2024, targeting a price point of around RMB 300,000 ($41,820). The upcoming sedan is designed not only for China but also for international markets, with Xpeng stating that its availability will depend on the specific demands of each country and region.
According to regulatory filings with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the five-seat sedan will measure 5,017 mm in length, 1,970 mm in width, and 1,427 mm in height, with a 3,008 mm wheelbase. Built on the same E platform as Xpeng’s G9 SUV, the new P7 will not include LiDAR sensors but will support advanced assisted driving features for both city and highway use.
Xpeng has described the new P7 as offering a more comprehensive and personalized experience compared to the current P7+, with enhanced intelligence and performance. “The new P7 is more comprehensive and personalized in terms of intelligence and performance,” the company said in a previous statement.
The P7’s bold new exterior design, led by Xpeng’s head of creative design Rafik Ferrag, introduces hard lines at the rear that contrast with the softer curves found on other sedans in the market. Ferrag, who joined the company in 2018, also designed the first-generation P7, which was launched at the Shanghai auto show in 2019 and became one of Xpeng’s most recognized models.
Xpeng currently sells a lineup that includes the Mona M03, P7+, and P7i, with the P7+ positioned as a spacious family vehicle.
