Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker Xpeng has announced the appointment of JuanMa Lopez, a seasoned design veteran with extensive experience at prestigious car companies, as its vice president of design center.
Lopez, who previously served as the head of Genesis Design Europe and held key design roles at Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Audi Group, brings 24 years of industrial design experience to Xpeng. He will play a crucial role in driving design innovation and business transformation at the company.
According to Xpeng, Lopez’s appointment comes at a strategic time as the company prepares to launch a strong product cycle in the third quarter and accelerate its expansion into overseas markets. His expertise is expected to enhance the competitiveness of Xpeng’s product design and facilitate its globalization efforts.
During his career, Lopez has been involved in designing iconic models such as the Lamborghini Gallardo Spider, Ferrari SF90 Stradale, and Audi Avantissmo, among others. He has also worked with Chinese automakers, including BYD and Changan Automobile, where he contributed to the development of groundbreaking design concepts.
Xpeng views Lopez’s international perspective as a valuable asset that will enrich its design team and help the company establish an international automotive design presence. His insights are expected to drive the evolution of Xpeng’s design style and inspire new design possibilities with a focus on luxury.
The company’s management expressed confidence in its future product lineup, which includes the launch of several new models over the next three years. Xpeng plans to unveil its first model under the Mona sub-brand in June, followed by the introduction of an all-new B-class all-electric sedan in the fourth quarter.
